Swing Dance Styles and Levels

We encourage students to self-assess thoughtfully, as this plays a key role in shaping balanced and cohesive classes, ensuring an enjoyable learning atmosphere where everyone can grow together. If you’re unsure about your level or need guidance, don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers for advice.

Solo Jazz

  • Essentials: Focus on building foundational rhythms and exploring individuality through solo movement.
  • Progression: Develop greater autonomy, creativity, and deepen skills in musicality, improvisation, and self-expression and widen your jazz moves vocabulary.
  • Expression: Designed for dancers eager to invest more time and energy into refining their craft. This level emphasizes advanced improvisation, musicality, and a stronger connection to the history and culture of jazz. Students are encouraged to practice regularly, explore the dance independently, and participate in international events.

Blues

  • Essentials: Learn the fundamental rhythms, movements, and techniques while discovering the essence of blues.
  • Progression: This semester we will focus primarily on Dynamics and Geometry in blues dance.

For both blues classes : You can register as a leader or a follower. There is also the option to register for the Switch role, if you are interested in exploring both roles and help to keep the leader/follower balance in class.

Lindy Hop

  • Essentials: Learn the foundations of swing dancing, focusing on rhythm, connection, and basic figures through the ELEF approach (learning both roles).
  • Progression: Develop greater autonomy, creativity, and deepen skills in musicality, improvisation, and self-expression and widen your moves vocabulary.
    • Focus: Specialize in one role (leader or follower) for more targeted skill-building and quality of movement.
    • ELEF: Broaden your skills and understanding by learning both roles for a dynamic and whole-body dance experience.
  • Expression: Tailored for highly motivated dancers who want to invest in their growth and deepen their connection to Lindy Hop. This level encourages autonomy, creativity, and exploration of cultural and historical context. Students are expected to engage in regular practice, immerse themselves in social dancing, and join international festivals. Choose one role (leader or follower), or opt for the Switch option to explore both.

Swing Revive Class
