This class is the continuation for our beginners and intermediate blues classes from spring 2022. However, everybody with previous blues-dancing experience is welcome as well. After last semester’s focus on technique and precision we will now embrace groove and smoothness in our dancing. We will work on how to dance with confidence in different dance positions and explore how we can orient the dancing in space. This semester we will pay even more attention to solo dancing and body awareness, to support a controlled and smooth couple dancing.

Tap – Beginner

This is a class where you will learn how to create sounds and rhythms with your feet. In these beginner classes we will work toward establishing fundamental tap movements, vocabulary and will work on basic rhythms and steps that progress into fun dance combinations. We will also touch upon tap history, musicality and improvisation, dancing to different swing and non-swing music. We do not dance with tap shoes in this course, but recommend wearing shoes with a hard leather or similar sole which can make a sound. This class will run for 8 weeks.

Teachers

For the Fall 2022 semester, the first 9 weeks of Lindy Hop, Solo Jazz, Shag classes will be taught by our inspirational guest teacher Viktor Lillard, with the help of our wonderful local teacher team. Our local team will take over the last 3 weeks of the semester.

Tap class will also be taught by our guest teacher Viktor, for 8 weeks.

Blues classes will be taught by Sjouke & Terje for the whole semester.

Meet your guest teacher Viktor Lillard

Viktor Lillard discovered Lindy Hop in Ohio, United States nearly ten years ago, and has only fallen more deeply in love with Jazz and Swing Dance as time goes on. Over the years swing dance has taken him where he never dreamed he would go, and the varied influences have helped him develop a unique flavor to his dance. He loves to spread the joy of dance within a comprehensive experience of jazz music, and is continually studying jazz’s profound history and cultural roots in a continuum of Black American social dance.

Viktor has taught classes and workshops on three continents, and continues to travel to teach, now based in Prague, Czechia. He uses his musical knowledge and his thoughtful creative outlook to help students both become comfortable in their basics and expand their boundaries. Above all, he absolutely loves to share his musical and flowing style of swing on the social floor, and he encourages all swing dancers to feel the music and have fun!

Course Fees

The price for the 8-week-Tap course is: 105€ per person.

For all other courses, the course fee is: 160€ per person. The 160€ course fees listed are for 12 weeks of classes. Unfortunately it is not possible to purchase single classes and we don’t offer trial classes. We recommend attending a beginner taster usually offered before Monday’s social dance to try out Swing dancing.

Registration

Note that if you register with a partner for a couple class, both leader and follower need to do an individual registration mentioning each other as partner. It is possible to register without a dancing partner. Since we often have a long waiting list for followers, we suggest that you either register with a partner or let us know, by leaving a comment, if you’d accept to change your dancing role in order to secure your spot. If you want to register as a single follower in that role, we recommend single followers to register as soon as the registration opens, to have the best chances that we can get you a spot on the course!

Registrations are now closed. Please contact us by email in case of questions.

HYGIENIC AND ORGANIZATIONAL MEASURES RELATED TO COVID-19

As stated above, no restrictions apply to the organisation of our dance courses at this moment. However, in the event of new measures adopted before or within the course of our Fall 2022 semester, we will have to adapt our rules in order to comply with any new legal rule.

In any event, we still recommend to all students to adopt the following hygienic rules:

  • Please wash your hands before and after class. Washing your hands with soap and water is recommended over the use of hand sanitizer.
  • We recommend all students to bring their own water bottle to class. Sharing a bottle is not recommended.
  • It will be possible to change partner during class, however changing partner is not an obligation and it is up to your individual choice to remain with your fixed partner.

In case you feel ill or are coughing, we kindly ask you to be responsible, do a self test and not join the event.

These hygienic measures are in the interest of our students, teachers and public health.

Failure to comply with these measures will result in expulsion from classes. Thanks in advance for your understanding and we look forward to see you in class!

THE ABOVE MEASURES COULD BE SUBJECT TO FURTHER UPDATES ACCORDING TO GOVERNMENT RULES.
