Friday Opening Party: BMAD (LU)
BMAD, aka Boogie Music Against Depression (or Blues Makes A Difference), was established in 2020 amidst the pandemic as a duo, intent on having a good time and shielding themselves from drifting into depression. By 2023, BMAD expanded into a trio, with Christian Ries playing the piano and singing with his gravelly voice, Paulo Simões strumming the guitar, and Rob Schauls commanding the drums.
BMAD delights audiences with a captivating blend of boogie-woogie, blues, and timeless jazz classics, alongside their own compositions. Their distinctive sound bears marked influences from esteemed musicians such as Leroy Carr, Roosevelt Sykes, Blind John Davis, Memphis Slim, Eddie Boyd, Jimmie Bell, Sammy Price, Champion Jack Dupree, Fats Waller, Eroll Garner and Louis Armstrong …
- Christian Ries: stage piano, vocals
- Paulo Simões: guitar
- Rob Schauls: drums
Together with our dance teachers they will explore with us the connection between blues music and dance, as well as historical aspects of this culture. This will take place on our Saturday special topic class.

Sunday after-party: DUKE BOX (LU)
The Duke Box was born within the Swing Dance Luxembourg association, the result of the meeting of Lindy Hop dancers determined to move from the floor to the stage. This ‘small band’ (trumpet, saxophone, piano, rhythm guitar, bass, drums) covers the great classics of Swing, from the Benny Goodman Sextet to Count Basie via Fats Waller. Combining energy and a dose of humor, particularly loving playing with it’s dancing audience, they perform every month at socials and other tea dances in Luxembourg and elsewhere.
The Duke Box is composed of: Stephan Kinsch (trumpet) ; Paul Reiff (saxophone); Geoffrey Sabba (piano); Hubert de Verdelhan (rhythm guitar); Sebastiano Guintini (bass); Simon Acquaviva (drums)
Their smooth and unique way of playing the blues is going to amaze you !
